F1 in Schools
This is a competition that is open to all SA based secondary schools and colleges. The F1 Teams have to design and manufacture compact gas cylinder powered model racing cars. To determine the best engineered and fastest car in the competition, the student teams compete against each other in a national championship.
This program is integrated with the curriculum that is used by schools in SA – it is outcomes based. Practical links between education and the industry are created while students are encouraged to physically do something that can help them somewhere in their future.
How to benefit from this?
Get involved as soon as you can. Schools must register for the challenge. The registered school will receive the Solid Edge 3D Modeling Computer Assisted Design (CAD) package license that is sponsored by ESTEQ. This is the same package that professional engineers use in the industry today!!
Once the software is installed, the teacher and learners can follow the tutorials and with the support of a nominated higher education institution they learn to produce 3D models of racing cars for their teams. The winning team will have the opportunity to represent South Africa in the World Championship.
