Direct a Design Team Successfully
Design Engineer is a general term that covers multiple engineering disciplines. Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering are the basic three.
The Design Engineer is distinguished from the designer/drafter by virtue of the fact that he/she sets the direction of the design effort. The Design Engineer usually leads the project, directing the designer/drafter as necessary. Products are usually designed with input from a number of sources such as manufacturing, purchasing, tool making and packaging engineering.
The Design Engineer may direct a team of designers to create the drawings necessary for prototyping and production or in the case of buildings, for construction or create the drawings him or herself. In the prototyping stage, design flaws are found and corrected and tooling, manufacturing fixtures and packaging are developed.
Mechanical Engineering
This discipline involves the application of principles of physics for analysis, design, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical systems. It requires a solid understanding of key concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics and energy. Mechanical Engineers design automobiles, aircrafts, heating and cooling systems, manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery , medical devices and more.
Civil Engineering
This discipline deals with the construction and design of public and private sector works such as bridges, roads, dams and buildings.
Electrical Engineering
This discipline deals with the study and/or application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism. The field covers a range of sub-studies including those that deal with power, electronics, control systems, signal processing and telecommunications.
